Going to Health in a Hand Basket

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

With all these thoughtless tools in town hall meetings deliberately disrupting the actual debate, all the online articles distorting what the bill says and assholes in nationally syndicated shows misinforming millions of people, it is difficult to see the actual problems and benefits with the health care bill.

They say things that any rational person would be against: “there will be a death committee that will euthanize people,” “that government will be able to just come into your home whenever they want,” “really sick people will die waiting for care” or other insane things. Of course people are going to be against some kind of panel that decides who lives and who dies (despite that donor committees exist that will decide who is eligible for a donated body part), because that can be seen as wrong. The problem is not that there are people who want a death panel, the problem is that it’s not in the bill. It’s not that there are people for the Government being able to invade your privacy against your will, it’s that it’s not in the bill. I don’t think I need to go on with examples.

I could go around saying that the bill will allow the government to give people pills that turn their penis’ into a pineapple. Of course people will be against that, but since it’s not in the bill, it doesn’t mean that people are against the bill. So why bring up an opposition against a fictional health care bill? Because they are against the real health care bill but lack the faculties necessary to provide a reasonable argument. So people that have read the bill (and are for or against it), should be going, “what the hell are you talking about?”

What does this tactic do to help their opposition to the real health care bill? It doesn’t. What it does is make them look like crazy idiots. It’s not like there aren’t enough reasonable issues about the health care bill that they could argue against. Of course those reasons aren’t emotional or easy enough to be against. I mean how can they get people on their side when they say that, “not every one deserves to receive medical help. And besides, if they can’t afford medical insurance, they deserve to die.” Who would be for that? That is why they bring up this fictional health care bill… oh come on, ok here: it’s because they are irrationally afraid of it and want other people to also be afraid of it too so that it doesn’t pass so they no longer have to be afraid of it. Unfortunately, by being crazy or just dishonest, they are only making it easier for the health care bill to pass.
