Religious Insanity Explained

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Religious ThoughtWell, sometimes as sick fetish to self suffering, I will have some awesome internet arguments. The following is from http://www.youtube.com, and comes in personal messages after the other person felt like making it a private conversation, probably because I was getting backup to his bullshit. On the surface these crazy people seem sane, and they can come up with reasonable sounding arguments… but ultimately fail to complete the logic. I insulted this person only once, yet this person feels the need to bring insults into the argument. Insults don’t bother me, it just increases my score.

The bible does not contradict itself, you are just reading it accurately:

Me: EXO 33:20 Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Lichtspielhaus234: That’s right, because God is all powerful. Something wrong with that? See back in the days of imperial reign in China the commoner could not look upon the Emperor because he was considered a living God. BUT..he was not all powerful. God is complex and all powerful. And the human mind can not comprehend this power, but by understanding his nature, we get a glimpse of who he is.

Me: EXO 33:11″And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.

Lichtspielhaus234: Yes, because being God he can allow Moses to speak to him face to face, and when Moses did speak to him, his face changed. Now, God being who he is..he has the power to show himself to who he wants. Right?

Me: The Bible does not say anything about God’s face changing.

Lichtspielhaus234: Dude are you serious? No really? Are you? Because I NEVER SAID GOD’S FACE CHANGED. OYYYYY..

Explanation:

Not only does the Bible contradict itself, but people that believe it doesn’t, take where it does contradict itself and contradict themselves as if they don’t remember what they said. I gave a perfectly clear example where the Bible gives two verses from the same chapter, that cannot both be true. I gave a lot more examples, but come on, one that exists in the same chapter talking about the same thing?

There are only two choices because I said so, even though it is a logical fallacy:

Lichtspielhaus234: See it’s how you look at it..Since he allowed his people, the Israelites to defend their lands therefor kill in war..then he’s a murderous God..according to you..but then if he didn’t allow his people who he loved to defend themselves..then you people wold have said..”Well if he loved them he could have allowed them to defend themselves.” Right? Pick one.

Me: I pick if he said don’t kill, then they shouldn’t kill. They and you believed that they were going to heaven so why not follow Gods commandments? This life does not matter if there is an eternity in heaven for following Gods commandments.

Lichtspielhaus234: No pick one of these numbnuts.

Me: Again with insults when I have not once insulted you. This statement is known as a false dilemma where only one of two things can be true where in fact many other options exist that can be true. Fallacies are illogical.

Lichtspielhaus234: Because you’re stupid, I’m pointing out a fact. Every thing you come up with is sheer stupidity. If I wanted to insult you I would have, I would have cursed at you. Even the bible says “To believe there is no God makes you a fool.” I’m trying to make you realize the things you’re saying are foolish. If you want me to be a bit more nice I can. For your sake. But man…think before you speak. Be logical about what you say. And pay attention to what you’re reading from me. Do that..and be logical. If you don’t understand I’ll explain it…but don’t come back with these really lame excuses because that’s what they read like. If you want to debate me…on the bible..READ IT..and understand it. All you do is read and take at face value what it says. You can’t do that with anything, you have to really study it, to comprehend it. Ok give me an example of other options being true. Go ahead.

Explanation:

If all else fails they resort to the damn Bible and insult you for pointing out that they are in fact; illogical. Notice how this person said I was illogical for pointing out this person’s fallacy. They think because they “know” God exists, then they are smart and everyone that doesn’t believe them are stupid. To them, a smart person has to believe in God to be smart

Only science that supports their beliefs can be trusted, even if you use the same methods to disprove them:

Me: It may just be a problem with the copying and translation of the Bible, but that would mean that you can’t really trust anything in there because it had been copied and translated by hand over several centuries using pen and ink.

Lichtspielhaus234: Oh so now that its not translated properly in a way that you can understand it, and you refuse to waste time learning from it? Funny thing, it was translated over by hand..yet..WE STILL FIND ARCHEOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL accuracies in it. Hmmmmm…

Me: Sure after several centuries they would write backwards on one page and copy that over to up to ten new pages, but that does not mean that these men were always accurate.”

Lichtspielhaus234: The bible is the most historically and archeologically accurate book in the world. Now tell me again..it’s not accurate?

Me: Translation is another problem altogether, since you can’t just take one language and make it mean exactly the same thing in another language. Which would mean that the Bible is not accurate. If its not accurate, then it cannot be taken literally. If it cannot be taken literally it requires interpretation. Interpretation comes from man and can be wrong.

Lichtspielhaus234: Nope, all that’s wrong. It’s just foolish assumptions and mindless rabble.

Me: Not to mention that the people who would have originally wrote it would not have an understanding of any of the things that we now know. They could have seen lightning and said it was the hand of God, and for all their understanding, to them, that is what it was. Natural disasters could easily have been written off as “God did it” because they were sinners. Whatever comforts them, because they wouldn’t know better. It what druids did before Christianity even existed, blaming gods for this and that, good things and bad things. I find it hypocritical to say that they were wrong, and you are right, despite that the reasoning is the same with the difference of their many gods and your one God. There is historical and archeological proof that there were other religions that predate the Bible. If you want me to believe that the historical and archeological proof of the Bible is accurate then I must also believe the same techniques applied to other things is also accurate.

Lichtspielhaus234: No, it is not fallible. You’re mind is fallible, because you don’t have the basic understanding. The reason I can say that you’re stupid in an attempt to translate the scriptures is this. What you’re saying is that because it’s not specific to YOU..it’s not valid. So what you want, is for the bible to make it easy for you to understand it because you’re not smart enough to comprehend it are you? You know what? If I were you, I would stop trying to quote scripture or even argue against the word,it is obvious that you’re not in the tiniest bit..smart enough to understand it.

Explanation:

Not only do these people fail to discuss the issue, they continue to resort to insults. Notice the complete lapse in discussing the the Bible may be inaccurate because of being hand copied. If you understand the Bible at literal face value then you are stupid for understanding what it says, because apparently there is some kind of subtext that takes a special amount of delusion to understand. Also note the completely missing retort to how they only agree with science (archeology) that agrees with them, even though the same methods (archeology) to prove their beliefs also disprove them.

The private messages (warning, extreme stupidity and about 20 pages):

Watch Your Mouth

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Why are some words bad to say? It essentially boils down to people trying to control other people even going to far as to try and abridge your speech to prevent you from saying certain words for no other reason than; they get uncomfortable when you say them.

Although I don’t get offended by what people say, I can make more sense out of a person getting offended by someone telling them, “you’re a dumb, poo poo head.” than I can understand a person getting upset from hearing someone say, “Shit! I fell on my ass and it fucking hurts.” Because the former is a verbal attack on another person while the latter is just someone getting hurt by falling down on his/her butt.

First, the hypocrisy: Its bad to say shit (which means feces), but OK to say poop, crap, poo… etc. (which mean feces), its bad to say ass (which means donkey or butt), but OK to say donkey or butt (which mean ass). Its OK to say “female dog” but its bad to “bitch.” So if its the meaning of the words, then it just doesn’t make sense. Maybe its the sound of the word that’s offensive and not the meaning. Well then in that case these words would also be considered vulgar: pass, compass, Wallace… etc. So if its not the meaning of the word or the sound of the word that makes it offensive, then what makes a word vulgar?

Second, the misinterpretation: Where in the bible does it say that its bad to say a few specific words that exist in modern English (and in no way existed in the time the Bible was written)?

Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Right, so there is that. But have you actually read it? How does the word “vain” translate in any way into don’t say something? Seriously? This is the standard Christian method of warping things including the English language into what they want instead of just using what is already there. This “commandment” means more that, “you shouldn’t think your awesome because you believe in God” than it means; don’t say, “God damn it.” Then there are those verses about cursing… well these pretty much mean actually cursing like, “I curse you to have herpes!” This is another example of Christians twisting meanings of words to make the bible match what they want instead of what it actually says. That is why they started calling some words “curse words.”

Third, the dickholes: Well, back in the dark ages and before that, Britain had been conquered by more men than Paris Hilton. When each man crowned himself king, he declared that his home tongue is the coolest language and the peoples common language as crass or vulgar. So pretty much anything Germanic was crass while French and Latin were polite. “How dare you say ‘”beef”‘ in the presence of the king, you should never use such fowl language… say ‘”bovine”‘ instead.” So the cultural reason is to be a dick to other people and to try and act superior. From then till now, people have been offended by certain words for no logical reason and cast their disturbing judgments on those that think that any one that gets offended by a word is mentally retarded.

Conclusion: It all just boils down to: some words are vulgar because some people get offended. Some people get offended because they are vulgar words. Of course there is no reason why the words are offensive… they just are.

The Ten Commandments in U.S. Law

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

First(ish) commandment: “I am the Lord thy god.” No wonder Jews argue so much if they think this is some kind of a commandment, because then pretty much any statement is a commandment and I will be damned if I am gonna be commanded around by your statements about who you are.

First(ish) commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” The first amendment goes against this by making Americans free to practice whatever religion they choose.

Second(ish) commandment: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image[...]” Of course this is just a silly commandment and has no comparable law or right. However there were a bunch of Christians who wanted to keep the graven image of the Ten commandments in several court houses despite that only 3 of the 10 commandments have comparable laws.

Third(ish) commandment: “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain[...]” Well there is nothing about not being able to take the Lord’s name in vain, but there is something about the freedom of speech which would allow it.

Fourth(ish) commandment:  “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Another not so commanding sounding commandment, more like a suggestion. Doesn’t say how to keep it holy, only that you should remember to do it. Has no comparable laws or rights except that depending on the religion that you follow, the Sabbath Day will fall on a different day of the week.

Fifth(ish)  commandment: “Honour thy father and thy mother[...]” Yet another weak commandment that sounds more like advice. For those keeping track that is about five commandments that have no comparable rights or laws in the U.S..

Sixth(ish) commandment:  “Thou shalt not kill.” Pretty close to the law about murdering, but self defense in the law is alright. And apparently stoning people to death is alright in the bible if enough people feel ok about it. I will say this one is close enough to the anti-murder laws. So one out of six commandments have a similar law in the U.S..

Seventh(ish) commandment: “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” While this is a very decent moral code to follow, there are no U.S. laws against it. One out of seven.

Eighth(ish) commandment:  “Thou shalt not steal.” Ah, this is a law. No theft is also a pretty decent moral. So two out of eight.

Ninth(ish) commandment:  “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” Ah, another one. Of course this really is only a big deal in court but still matches pergury. Three out of nine.

Tenth(ish) commandment: “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife[...]” Yeah, no comparable law any where about thinking about stuff.

Eleventh(ish) commandment:  “Thou shalt not covet [...] any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” Still no laws against thinking about stuff. So we end there at three out of ten commandments that are laws or rights in the U.S..

So why, if not even half of the ten commandments are laws (and the ones that are are not very religious ones), do people think the ten commandments have such an influence on the American Justice system? Don’t kill, don’t steal and don’t lie in court are very common laws anywhere even before Christianity came to be.

There are so many more good rights and laws that come to mind that have no base in religion and are in great opposition to what religious followers wanted: Habeas corpus, free speech, freedom of religion, the right to privacy, no torturing and the right to a due process and to be judged by a jury of peers. All of those last rights and laws I listed have been (at one time or another) prevented or opposed by religious people.

Of course there are other laws from the bible that make their way into U.S. law: Selling your daughter to cover a debt,  stone to death children that disobey their parents, eye for an eye (unless the man who lost his eye first is a slave, then he just gets to go free), its OK to kill slaves as long its a long painful death, if some one picks up sticks on the sabbath then kill him… and many, many more awesome biblical laws.

The Redistribution of Wealth

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

This is a sore subject for pretty much everyone and is only getting more so as congress is getting ready to raise taxes on the wealthy. Well its not so much as raising taxes on the wealthy as it is getting rid of a tax break that was put there by Reagan and the  two Bushes. The tax break was simply a tax break for having lots of money. So, the more money you have, the less taxes you pay. Yes it is that stupid. You too could save money in taxes if you had more money.

I know the argument that the wealthiest %5 of Americans are paying 30% of the nations taxes and its so unfair for these whining infants to have to pay the same percentage as every one else. So there has been a redistribution of wealth going on, but it’s not the wealthy giving money to the poor, its the poor and average giving money to the rich… after all they deserve more money for making more money.

Well as you can see I have a problem with people being wealthy. Its not that they have lots of money, its that they act like they deserve more and that they can’t pay an equal percentage of income as the rest of us because they will cry and throw a fit about it and plebeian Republican followers are more than eager to drop their pants, bend over and accept the tax burden while praising god.

Its a good thing too, if we hadn’t been giving people money for making more money then we would have hit some kind of major job loss and recession.  After all that is why Reagan started this tax break for the wealthy, to try and create more jobs and keep the economy going. Now I am not dumb enough to think that this was the cause of all our current problems, but why give people more money to protect the economy and job market when its not protecting the economy and job market? All its doing is taking more money from people that need it and giving it to people that don’t.

So you know what? Stop trying to protect those sad miserable excuses for people. Just because some one makes a lot of money does not mean that they get to pay less in taxes than some one that makes far less money. Stop wanting to take it in the ass under some delusion that it’s protecting the American dream of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. What its doing is taking away your liberty and making it harder for you to pursue happiness… unless you already are making more than $500,000 year.
